computerooms (“computerooms”, “we”, “us”) operates a flatshare marketplace for remote workers, available on the web and as a mobile app. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have over it. It applies to both the computerooms website and the computerooms mobile app.
If you have questions about this policy or want to exercise any of the rights described below, contact us at privacy@computerooms.com.
We only collect data needed to run the marketplace. Specifically:
When you sign up you can optionally add self-descriptive tags — work style (e.g. remote worker, freelancer), personality (e.g. early riser, extrovert), identity, and lifestyle (e.g. fitness-focused, religious, spiritual, non-religious). These help other users find a compatible flatshare match. Lifestyle tags relating to religion or belief are treated as special category data under UK GDPR — we only collect them with your explicit consent (you choose to add them), you can remove them at any time from your profile, and we never use them for anything other than showing your own profile to other users.
If you contact a host or renter, we store the content of your conversation so both participants can view their message history. Messages are only visible to the two people in that conversation.
Hosts can subscribe to paid plans (e.g. priority listing placement). Payments are handled entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details. We keep your Stripe customer reference and whether your subscription is active, so we can grant or revoke plan features.
To notify you about new messages, we store a push notification token (from the mobile app or your browser, if you enable notifications). If you haven’t enabled push notifications, we send a message-notification email to your account email address instead.
If you request a partition wall quote for a listing, we store the room dimensions, wall side, and any notes you provide, along with the resulting quote.
Our hosting provider (Vercel) processes standard web request logs (IP address, browser type, request timestamps) to operate and secure the service. We do not use any third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or targeted marketing.
We use a small number of service providers (“processors”) to run computerooms. They only receive the data needed to perform their function and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:
Other users of computerooms can see your public profile, initials, tags, and listings, and any message content you send them directly. We disclose data to third parties beyond the above only if required by law.
Some of our processors (listed above) may store or process data outside the UK/EEA. Where this happens, we rely on their standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards for international data transfers.
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your profile, listings, and messages within 30 days, except where we need to retain records for legal or accounting purposes (e.g. payment records).
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@computerooms.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) if you believe we haven’t handled your data properly.
computerooms is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Your data is protected by row-level security policies at the database level, meaning listings, messages, and conversations are only readable by the people they belong to. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you directly.
